The amount of money in politics is outrageous and is corrupting our democracy. Elections should be won, not bought.
Public financing of campaigns empower voters and allow qualified candidates to run and win without wealthy donors. But public financing is banned everywhere in California other than charter cities.
Proposition 4, the California Fair Elections Act, will: (1) Allow public funding. (2) Require that publicly funded candidates abide by expenditure limits and meet strict criteria to qualify. (3) Prohibit use of public funds to pay for legal defense, fines, or to repay personal loans to campaigns
